Ernest William Thompson was born in Brandon (Thetford Q3-1882 4B:381) son of Henry and Hannah THOMPSON (née CHENERY). 1891 census...Aged 8, he was at London Road, Brandon with his father Henry THOMPSON [50] bricklayer; his mother Hannah [49] born Blo Norton; brothers John [24] a warrener and Charles E [13] a bricklayer's labourer; sister Eliza [20]. All except his mother were born in Brandon. 1901 census...Aged 18, a bricklayer's labourer, he was at Church Road, Brandon with his parents and brother Charles, a stone mason's labourer. 1911 census...Aged 28, William, a labourer, was at Church Road, Brandon with his parents, sister Eliza and brother Charles. He attested in Brandon.
Initially in 9th Battalion. Without his Army service record it is impossible to be sure where or when exactly he was wounded. He died in St John's Ambulance Brigade Hospital in Etaples.
